Filmed in seven countries across three continents, this compelling documentary looks at the Cuban health care system, specifically examining how it has spread around the world through medical diplomacy—there are more than 100,000 Cuban health care professionals serving in more than 100 countries. “Salud” also features exchange programs that bring medical trainees to Cuba, including American students who would not have the opportunity to attend medical school in the U.S. This dynamic film emphasizes that public sector programs (rather than private companies) are in a better position to address and serve health care needs because “quality healthcare is a human right, not a commodity.” After the screening, join the filmmaker, Connie Field, and one of the American students who studied in Cuba, for an in-depth discussion.
