Closing the Wealth Gap: Asset-building Strategies in Low-income Communities

Last Update: Thu, December 11, 2008
Description
The asset-building movement has recently grown to encompass a wide range of strategies to support low-income families as they move from poverty to long-term financial security. This session will highlight philanthropy’s critical role in closing this nation’s wealth gap. The speakers will present a continuum of asset-building opportunities: asset building and land loss prevention as a means of reducing persistent poverty in the “black belt” states; asset building as part of the Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts; strategies to promote financial education; and access to mainstream financial services, savings, and investments.
