New Models of Philanthropy with Indigenous Roots

Last Update: Thu, December 11, 2008
Description
Native American philanthropic efforts are being recognized as innovative models for success. The Council on Foundations has recently revised its associate membership rules to recognize the importance and potential of Tribal organizations with IRS 7871 legal status—Tribal Foundations, and Tribal Nonprofits. Native philanthropy is growing in complexity and impact as Native foundations, Tribal charitable giving programs, and Native donors forge new ground in philanthropy. This session will showcase and explore dynamic new relationships within philanthropy, successes and challenges, and strategies for deeper engagement.
