Creating Documentaries for Impact on Poverty and Other Social Change

Last Update: Thu, December 11, 2008
Description
Because “a picture is worth a thousand words,” the Northwest Area Foundation, CFED (a national nonprofit), and Twin Cities Public Television collaborated to create the documentary “Living with a Hole in Your Pocket.” Following four working families, the 60-minute film reveals the policy and regulatory “catch-22s” that frustrate the best efforts of millions of Americans to get out and stay out of poverty. Over 1,500 DVDs of this production have been distributed as a tool for change. Session attendees will learn how the partners defined their roles, set goals, handled time constraints, and worked around distribution challenges.
