Unlikely Bedfellows: Creating Community Change

Last Update: Thu, December 11, 2008
Description
A private foundation, a community foundation, a giving circle of donors, and a community organizing group—unlikely bedfellows or a partnership for community change? The Social Justice Fund for Ventura County represents a new generation of community-driven philanthropists addressing social justice issues in the rapidly changing Southern California region. Community leaders set out to educate donors about the impact of social justice grantmaking. The Ventura County Community Foundation and the private McCune Foundation came on board, recognizing the benefits of organizing local philanthropic resources. As the fund educated and engaged more than 70 community donors who dispensed grants for social change, the supporting foundations also achieved key objectives: The private foundation gained a funding partner that aligned with its mission while the community foundation extended its breadth and leadership role. Join us to learn more about this partnership.
