Civic Engagement—A Continuum of Opportunities for Funders

Last Update: Thu, December 11, 2008
Description
Funders have important roles all along the civic engagement continuum—strengthening democracy, engaging voters, encouraging civic involvement, and providing paths to citizenship. Civic-spirited philanthropy can unleash the power of individuals and effectively promote different forms of civic action. For instance, funders are investing millions in tax-exempt voter registration and civic engagement efforts and working to increase participation in communities of color. What lessons can be learned for future efforts? The session will also cover smart and ethical principles and practices for foundations’ public interest advocacy efforts.
