12:30pm–2:00pm Ecumenical Service
In 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. was asked, "Don't you feel that integration can only be started and realized in the Christian church?" King replied, in part, "We must face the fact that in America, the church is still the most segregated major institution in America. At 11:00 on Sunday morning when we stand and sing and Christ has no east or west, we stand at the most segregated hour in this nation. This is tragic. Nobody of honesty can overlook this."

Over forty years later, these words---and this practice of spiritual segregation---still ring true in many houses of worship across the globe. This conversation will address the issues of faith and race. Both have garnered significant analysis through the media lens as well as through the eyes of citizens---especially during this election season. Is there really a separation of church and state when candidates seek votes? Can race determine who wins an election in the United States? Who decides when the race card trumps the faith card? Join a panel of faith leaders as we explore these sensitive issues.
