In her tenure with the Council, Tonia has worked on a variety of projects and program areas, including organizational partnerships, diversity and inclusive practices, leadership development, internal strategy and planning, and fundraising.
Throughout her eclectic career, Tonia has focused on various aspects of organizational learning and development for nonprofits and companies. Prior to joining the Council she worked for the National MultiCultural Institute providing cultural competence training and consulting services for nonprofits, government agencies, educational institutions, and companies. Before shifting to the nonprofit sector, she also worked as a content developer and project manager for a company in Chicago producing innovative, interactive training software that capitalized on how people learn most effectively. In one of her first jobs out of college she spent a year teaching English in Santiago, Chile.
She loves to travel, cook, and ride her bike, and is very interested in issues of adoption. She lives in Washington, DC with her husband, son, and crazy rescue boxer dog.
