As a member of the Charitable Giving Coalition, the Council is participating in “Protect Giving—DC Days” to educate members of Congress about the value and impact of philanthropic giving. This important event offers an opportunity to meet with lawmakers in advance of the next Congress and upcoming tax-reform discussions. The Protect Giving Days complements other Washington-based events, such as Foundations on the Hill, and leverages the work foundations already do in their respective districts. We encourage Council members to participate and communicate the important role of philanthropy and its partners in the lives of citizens across our country and the world.
With the lame-duck session of Congress shaping up to be the time when policymakers address pressing year-end fiscal issues, limiting itemized deductions—including the charitable deduction—remains a popular proposal for raising federal money.
This is not news for many of you. But now it's crunch time. The stakes have never been higher. It is critical that policymakers hear from us NOW before final decisions are made and unintended consequences take root. That’s why the Charitable Giving Coalition is encouraging you to participate in Protect Giving—DC Days. Our goal is to have 200 participants attend, representing a broad swath of the nonprofit sector, including private and community foundations, their grantees, and independent charities. There is no cost to attend the event, but participants are responsible for their own travel and hotel, if needed.
