What is social justice philanthropy, and what conditions are necessary for it to succeed? In the December issue of Alliance magazine, which focuses on philanthropy and social investment worldwide, several writers working in the field around the world address the topic. Organizations featured include the Brazil Human Rights Fund, India’s Dalit Foundation, the Arab Human Rights Fund, TrustAfrica, and the New Israel Fund.
But social injustice is not just a problem for the developing world, as reports from the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation in the United States and the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland attest. The magazine’s content was driven largely by the Working Group on Philanthropy for Social Justice and Peace, assembled by former Ford Foundation program officer Christopher Harris.
