The Stewardship Principles for Corporate Grantmakers
are a clear statement of commitment to excellence and accountability. These voluntary principles—crafted by grantmakers from across the country—were formally adopted by the Council’s Committee on Corporate Grantmaking in September 2004.
Use the Stewardship Principles to guide and strengthen your management, governance, and grantmaking decisions.
And be sure to access our best practices database where you’ll find sample documents, tools, and processes designed to help you put the principles into practice.

Use this guide to develop a different kind of meeting that allows you to explore, in-depth, one or more topics, such as governance, management, or grantmaking practices.
The Council's Committee on Corporate Grantmaking began the process to create Stewardship Principles for Corporate Grantmakers in September 2003. Using a Listening Tour, teleconferences, and written comments, the Council gathered the collective wisdom of the corporate grantmaking community and developed these principles.
