Summit Recap

Over the course of three days from April 11–13, 2018, the Council convened over 200 leaders in Philadelphia to participate in our inaugural Public Policy Summit. Attendees engaged in thoughtful discussions around trending issues and the cutting-edge, innovative strategies that philanthropic organizations are utilizing to address those topics.

The plenary sessions featured provocative and thought-invoking insights from speakers such as Angela Rye, who challenged all of us to incorporate the themes of “love and power” into our public policy and advocacy efforts.

Other speakers, such as those who shared their stories and expertise for our Voter Engagement and Participation plenary, highlighted ways in which foundations can promote increased voter turnout within communities to strengthen the overall health of our democracy.

The Summit concluded with remarks from advocacy leadersoutside of the philanthropic sector who shared their insights on how to amplify the collective message of philanthropy in the national public policy conversation.

Beyond the formal programming, the Summit provided abundant opportunities for participants to experience the history of Philadelphia at the National Constitution Center while learning from and networking with their colleagues who engage in advocacy on many different issues and across the local, state, and national level.
