October 2016 updates on the Council's Global Philanthropy Program include information about Habitat III, new SDG resources, upcoming events the Director of Global Philanthropy will be speaking at in the coming months, and the launch of a Global Liaisons Program, a new initiative of the Council which will bring together partnership staff and offices within federal agencies and key multilateral institutions (like the U.N., World Bank, and development banks) every other month to discuss how best to partner with and engage philanthropy.

In the United States, LGBTQ History Month is celebrated during the month of October. It is an annual observance of LGBTQ history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. LGBTQ History Month was first celebrated in 1994. Among the early supporters and members of the first coordinating committee for LGBT History Month was Council on Foundations Board Member and Arcus Foundation Executive Director, Kevin Jennings.

We are pleased to announce the release of the Council’s 2016 Salary Tables. This year’s tables include salary data from nearly 10,000 full-time positions in foundations and corporate giving programs (representing over $1 billion in total salaries). The 1,010 grantmakers that participated in this year’s Grantmaker Salary and Benefits survey held a total of $285 billion in assets and gave $15 billion last year, all of which make this the largest and most comprehensive data set of compensation in the field of philanthropy.
