When I first learned of the Council on Foundations’ Career Pathways program, I wasn’t sure whether I should apply. I was interested by the programs’ goal to increase the number of people of color in senior and executive positions in philanthropy and to thereby deepen capacity for impact in the field, but facing a looming deadline made me think it’d be best to wait until next year.

Last year, I attended an event hosted by the New England Impact Investing Initiative (NEIII) for a conversation with Michael McCreless, Senior Director of Strategy and Impact, at Root Capital. Happy New Year! I am following news out of Davos and reading about new partnerships on critical issues, like MasterCard’s leadership to announce a new partnership on refugees and the new $50 million partnership of companies and foundations, including UBS, to scale technology to improve last-mile healthcare globally. As we kick off a new year, I’m excited to see the leadership role many companies are playing in driving social change, in the U.S. and around the world.

I recently signed on to the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™, a CEO-driven pledge to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace. I strongly urge other sector leaders to do the same. As part of this pledge, more than 300 CEOs, from some of the biggest corporations and organizations in the world, have committed to push for greater diversity and inclusion in their respective workplaces. By taking advantage of such a large swath of the business community, CEO Action hopes to create a lasting legacy of workforce diversity and inclusion.

Season’s greetings from the Global Philanthropy team here at the Council! It finally feels like winter in D.C. and we’ve even had a taste of snow. Across the world, 2017 has been a year of change and transition. As the year ends, I’ve been reflecting on our program’s impact in 2017, especially as we plan for next year. Here are highlights from this year and sneak peeks into projects we are excited about for 2018.

The Council on Foundations is thrilled to be co-hosting the first-ever North American Community Foundations Summit in Mexico City, February 5-6, 2018. More than 120 community foundation leaders will gather in the capital of Mexico this winter to learn new ways to think globally and act locally — and forge new connections that we are confident will lead to future collaborations.
