Council on Foundations Statement Regarding Its Focus on Strengthening Philanthropy

Today, the Council on Foundations releases the following statement from its Vice President of Communications Jesse Salazar:

“The Council on Foundations provides leadership opportunities and tools philanthropic organizations need to make a meaningful difference in the life of communities.  As a national organization with a large and diverse membership, the Council is the principal voice for philanthropy. The Council focuses its work on strengthening the field and promoting its value, especially with policymakers and the public.

Independent Sector (IS) is and has been an indispensable partner in our efforts to advance the philanthropic field, and this is a partnership the Council expects to continue. Each organization plays a distinct yet complementary role advancing the field.

The Council’s Board of Directors is not considering a merger with IS. We will continue to collaborate with our colleagues, like IS, as part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening philanthropy and advancing the work of our members.”
