The Community Foundations National Standards Board (CFNSB) today announces the field comment period for the December 2013 Proposed Revised National Standards. These revisions are being made as part of a five-year review cycle, and will be open to comment from January 15 to February 15, 2014.

Senator Baucus released tax reform discussion drafts in 2013, including the tax administration draft, which proposes requiring all tax-exempt organizations to electronically file their Form 990s. As part of the discussion draft process, stakeholders are invited to submit comments. The Council commented on this mandatory e-filing provision.

This series of in person and media events will demonstrate the vital role of charitable giving and its inextricable link to thriving communities. Philanthropic leaders will tell policymakers about philanthropy at work in the daily lives of their constituents and raise public awareness about the sector's successes – ranging from expanding access to education and supporting military families, to creating jobs and fostering innovation.

The effort to reach an agreement on the federal budget gives hope that Congress can work together in a bipartisan manner. This could be a positive sign that comprehensive tax reform might gain momentum in 2014. We are hopeful that the parties will continue to come together on issues vitally important to our nation, including efforts to both simplify the tax code and maintain important and effective incentives for charitable giving.

The Council on Foundations is proud to release the 2013 Grantmakers Salary Tables. This annual publication is one of the most comprehensive sets of data on U.S. foundations’ staff compensation available.
