(R-KY)

State Senator

Ralph A. Alvarado is an American physician and politician who was elected to the Kentucky State Senate in 2014, and is the first Hispanic member ever elected to the Kentucky General Assembly.   He represents Kentucky's 28th Senate district, which includes Fayette, Clark, and Montgomery counties.  He serves as the Chairman of the Senate Health & Welfare Committee, member of Medicaid Oversight Committee, member of the Senate Transportation Committee, and member of the Senate State & Local Government Committee.  He also leads the Substance Abuse Recovery Task Force.

Senator Alvarado earned his bachelor's degree in biology from Loma Linda University (California) in 1990, and then went on to receive his Doctorate in Medicine in 1994 from Loma Linda University at the age of 24.  He completed his medical residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Kentucky in 1998.

Since his election, Alvarado has earned a reputation for working with both sides of the aisle.  Because of his diverse medical background, his legislative focus has been on public health, protecting the physician-patient relationship and medical budgetary solutions.   However, the expanse of his legislative accomplishments encompasses varied issues such as liability reform, domestic violence, pharmaceuticals, mortgage banking deregulation, government reduction, identity theft, and expungement of appellate records.

Senator Alvarado was featured as a prime-time speaker on day #3 at the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, OH.  He also was tapped to represent the Trump campaign at Fancy Farm Event in 2016 and asked to serve as a member of the Trump Hispanic Advisory Council.  After his re-election to the Kentucky State Senate in 2018, he was asked by Governor Matt Bevin to be his running mate as Lieutenant Governor for his gubernatorial campaign in 2019.

Alvarado currently lives in Winchester with his wife of 26 years, Dawn.  He has two adult children (Nathan -22, Sarina - 20).  He attends Grace Baptist Church in Winchester and serves as a deacon.
