The Council on Foundations will host our inaugural Public Policy Summit, April 11 – 13, 2018, in Philadelphia—the birthplace of the United States of America—on this very topic. We will welcome current and former elected officials, foundation leaders, and experts in this space, to lead discussions about the role philanthropy plays in affecting the civic and political processes that impact our society.

The Council on Foundations is working with our peer philanthropy networks Comunalia (in Mexico) and Community Foundations of Canada to organize the first-ever North American Community Foundation Summit: Leaving No One Behind which will be held in Mexico City in February 2018.

The CEO & Trustee Retreat will highlight what a successful partnership between the CEO and Board Chair looks like. The Retreat will profile successful partnerships, identify barriers to success and share tools for creating a successful relationship.

The 2017 HR Summit: Achieving Equity in the Workplace, co-hosted by the Council on Foundations and CHANGE Philanthropy, is your unique opportunity to learn how to make your foundation — and philanthropy as a whole — more diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

Join Pennsylvania colleagues May 1-2 at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg to develop the first-ever statewide philanthropic policy network for collaboration and impact. Sessions will be highly interactive. The conference kicks off with briefs from policy experts in each of the four areas so participants can hit the ground running for a full-day of highly interactive collaboration planning. Participants will leave with a solid grounding in the issues and a menu of activities that can be mission-specific to each organization but aligned for statewide impact.

The Council on Foundations invites you to attend the 2016 Endowments and Finance Summit! We will convene in New York City to take a deep dive into the most pressing issues concerning foundation leaders responsible for financial and investment management.

Join the Congressional Philanthropy Caucuses, staff, the Council on Foundations, and valued partners for a reception on Thursday, April 14 during Philanthropy Week in Washington 2016. This reception will celebrate and lift up the critical role of philanthropy in communities and the importance of engaging philanthropy as a stakeholder in policy discussions.

Members of the Philanthropy-Joining Forces Impact Pledge and the Veterans Philanthropy Exchange gathered for learning and sharing.

This gathering is ideal for newly appointed member CEOs (less than 3 years in position) and member CEOs considering retiring and charged with succession planning. In an intimate setting, the CEO retreat provides participants an opportunity to learn from one another, share specific challenges, develop connections to colleagues, and discuss how to successfully steward an organization through what are, by definition, difficult transitions. The retreat will be intimate -- with informal networking time, carefully facilitated peer-to-peer engagement, relevant experts and honest conversation.

Working with some of the top finance professionals in philanthropy, the Council is organizing a special summit for c-suite executives who oversee finance and investments and have an interest in leveraging their investments in new and exciting ways. The TIAA-CREF Institute is sponsoring the one and a half day event to be held in the heart of Manhattan’s Financial District. During the meeting, participants will have access to sessions to help them develop proactive, intentional and effective finance and endowment management strategies.

The Foundation HR Alliance is a newly-established forum for private foundations to connect and have ongoing dialogue around human resources issues of great importance: compensation, benefits, performance management, talent management and leadership.

The Council on Foundations, nonprofit media organizations, foundations, journalists, academics, and other stakeholders held a conversation about the role of nonprofit media in fostering a vibrant civil society in local communities.

Hosted by the Council on Foundations and the Veterans Philanthropy Exchange, this day-long convening of the veterans philanthropy community builds on the historic pledges in 2014 of more than $200 million by grantmakers to support programs for service members, veterans and their families. Attendees will include Philanthropy-Joining Forces Impact Pledge national grantmakers, veterans funders, nonprofit grantees, federal agency officials, veterans and military family members. It marks the first anniversary of the Impact Pledge initiative catalyzed last year by the Council’s members, Blue Shield of California Foundation, the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, the Lincoln Community Foundation and the Robert R. McCormick Foundation.
