As We Continue to Reimagine
For more than 70 years, the Council on Foundations has provided the opportunity, leadership, and tools needed by philanthropic organizations to advance the common good.
As the world of philanthropy evolves, we find ourselves at an institutional crossroads. Today, strong philanthropic support organizations are pushing the field forward to do more good for more people. With the arrival of our new President and CEO, Kathleen Enright, we have an opportunity to consider two key questions about our role in that ecosystem:
- Who is the Council?
- What unique contribution can we make to advance philanthropy, ensuring it gets stronger and more sophisticated over time?
This year we’ve heard from hundreds of Council members and nonmembers, in particular through our Reimagining Council Membership process. These conversations highlighted areas where our members find value in the Council - including our role as a convener, our ability to advocate on behalf of the sector, and our top-notch legal expertise.
However, we know there is room for improvement. One critical area is how we define and communicate our core identity and purpose.
We’ve taken this feedback to heart. We are committed to listening and learning from you, our members, nonmembers and partners, about your vision for the Council and how we can best support a strong, resilient and effective philanthropic field.
This summer, Kathleen will conduct in-person and virtual engagement sessions with members and friends across the country. We'd love for you to attend one of these sessions and share your feedback. There will also be opportunities to chat with Kathleen one on one, or you can email her at KathleenListens@cof.org.
Opportunities to Engage
We currently do not have any other in-person events scheduled.
We'll be hosting a number of teleconferences with Kathleen on Reimagining our Vision & Value to the Field.
