As a benefit of membership, the foundation and/or corporate giving program will have access to the Council on Foundations’ attorneys and legal staff who provide detailed information and education on a wide variety of topics related to foundation operations and legal compliance. The attorneys and staff of the legal team have over 30 years of combined experience in nonprofit and tax law, and understand the unique legal and compliance issues facing private, corporate and community foundations. Individual access to the legal team is available by telephone or email, and there is no limit to the number of times a member may access legal. In addition to the one-on-one consultations, the legal team produces written guidance, hosts a variety of webinars and in-person trainings, and regularly speaks at conferences around the country. Our legal team can also research specific issues and review documents, however all publications, articles, email correspondence and telephone consultations provided by Council attorneys and legal staff are intended for informational purposes only and not as part of an attorney-client relationship. Council attorneys are not licensed in every state and cannot provide legal representation.
