Our annual conference brings together grantmakers from coast to coast, from organizations large and small. Together, we can reshape the future of education grantmaking to move us toward an inclusive, equitable future for all learners. Together we take the next step in our journey: to explore how to strengthen the whole learner. It's time to transform our thinking on when and how learning takes place. And it's time to broaden our understanding of how we can help learners succeed. From birth to career, learners are shaped, supported and deterred by the many elements that make up their full environments. We will investigate what it takes to foster the whole learner by exploring interventions and support structures to enhance environments within and outside of school, as well as by examining how and why to incorporate social and emotional competencies into the learning domain. We need nothing less than a coordinated approach to creating healthy, safe and supportive environments to promote positive and versatile outcomes for the whole learner.
This year's conference will be held in San Diego, California. California's Department of Education has prioritized serving the whole learner, including an emphasis on social and emotional learning. Gathering in a state that has taken initiative in these areas provides us with first-hand access to experienced practitioners and tested theories that can provide insights relevant to other states. With the latest innovations and data at our fingertips, we will leave the conference better prepared to strengthen philanthropy to expand opportunities for the whole learner.
