Tavie Clay

Tavie Clay is currently the Director, People & Culture for the Council on Foundations. She leads the HR function of the organization, drives people strategy, and implements REDI structures, policies, and procedures. She brings over 15 years of experience in the HR field for education based and nonprofit organizations. Prior to joining the Council, she served as the National Director of Human Assets for Educators for Excellence. In this role, she was responsible for all human resources activities including benefits administration, culture building, compensation analysis, skill development, and policy/procedure guidance. Throughout her career, Tavie has been a trusted advisor to CEOs, executive teams, and boards of directors on business analytics, compensation, organizational change, workplace culture, diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies for people operations and building talent strategies.

She attended Texas Woman’s University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree inPsychology and a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences. A twist of fate would have it thatshe became a Science teacher in DC Public Schools and fell in love with education. During hertime there, Tavie had the pleasure of building her capacity as an educational leader. It washere where she served the school in various roles as a classroom teacher, administrator, andmentor to new teachers for their first year of service. She later went onto earn two Master’sdegrees, a M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction and then a MBA in General and HumanResources Management.

She would leverage her education, professional experience and world travels to influence howthe “business” of education is conducted in a way that moves us closer to better outcomes forpeople. In the past few years, Taviehas leaned in more to dismantle systemic racism in theworkplace through the evaluation of organizational culture and people systems by applying aDEI lens and compassionate spirit. This allows those in the organization to show up as theirauthentic selfwhile delivering quality service and making impactful results in their role. Shehas a passion for continued learning and is committed to empowering and educating others tothrive and operate in their gifts. In her free time, she loves spending time with her dogs,cooking, traveling, and reading
